PULAU AYER RESORT

The name of Ayer probably reminds us of the Ayer rock in the middle of Australia, the land of the Maori. Yet Ayer island here is a small island around 50 kms north of Jakarta city, one member of a group of island called Pulau Seribu means thousand islands. The name refers as if there are really a thousand island, but it is only a name, and registered island only around 130 islands. The popularity of thousand island or Pulau Seribu as a recreation place, especially the resort of Ayer has been introduced during Dutch Colonization around 18th century, and even a story about the Parahyangan said that the king of Pajajaran visited the port of Sunda Kelapa and Nusa Sewu. Nusa means land or island, and sewu means thousand. It was possible that Nusa Sewu was the name of Pulau Seribu. When Indonesia got independence the first president of Indonesia also used Pulau Ayer as the recreation during week end among his bussy politiacl affairs and the hope to build an exclusive holiday destination.

The island of Ayer is located around 50 kms north of Jakarta city and can be reached by speed boar from Marina Ancol around 30 minutes on calm sea of Jakarta. Ayer is small, quiet with beautiful tropical plantation breezing sea wind and beautiful water and beach.
