JAKARTA TRADITIONAL
MARKET |
Traditional market is still exist
from the smallest group of settelements deep in the
village up the big cities or even metropolitan city
like Jakarta. the existance of traditional market in
Indonesia showing the same pattern and characters throughout
the island regardless of the ethnic group it is referred
by anthropologist. The pattern of transaction is based
on certain day which is called pasaran day or the day
of market. Normally every ethnic introduces this type
of days which is consist of 3 mudular days for all the
year. The name of the day in traditional market is "
Pasah, Peteng, Kajeng " at the other places often
called " Pasar, Beteng, Kajeng ". The schedule
of meeting between the seller and the buyer usually
during the day of Pasah or Pasar. Yet in the bigger
traditional market which is located in the bigger cities
this pattern of meeting schedule is not consistent anymore,
it is like modern market, available and supplays all
the day and the year. Second pattern very clear at Indonesian
traditional market is the freedom of pricing. There
is no label for the product. The same vendors located
side by side can offer very different selling or bottom
cost price. A cute negotiation and offering is a common
pattern of transaction. Third pattern is no regulation
of product being included in one area of vendors. It
might be from 10 vendors, can be 9 vendors selling the
same products. There is no emotional relation between
repeat customers and with those once shop away. Repeaters
may get the same price with the once shoppers. The key
is how good one negotiate the price. In some traditional
market the use of modern thinking of giving incentive
to frequest buyer has been reported exist. |
