Menteng is now under the administration of Kecamatan Menteng government under the municipality of Central Jakarta or Jakarta Pusat. The location is close to Gambir train station, adjacent to Cikini area to the north east. Some main roads that pass through Menteng area are Jalan Cokroaminoto, Jalan Teuku Umar, Jalan Dr. Sam Ratulangi, and some smaller roads that lead to inner part of the area.

Just north of Menteng is the area of ever well known cheap assemblage of hotels at the area of Jalan Jaksa, a complex of hotels and food outlets between jalan Kebon Sirih Raya at the north, Jalan Haji Agus Salim at the west and Jalan Wahid Hasyim at the south east. At the south end of jalan Cokroaminoto and jalan Teuku Umar runs parallel jalan Sutan Syahrir and Jalan Prof Moh. At the beginning the area was designed by Dutch colonial government as town park in 1920.
