GAMBIR RAILWAY STATION
The name of station Gambir is so popular in Jakarta city,
especially for those prefer to travel by train. Train
transport in Java and other parts of Indonesia is less
developing despite the fact of long history of rail
and train existence in the country. Meanwhile it is
actually the cheapest way of traveling. Some trains
are classified as good standard such as Argo Bromo and
Executive, only the management less intensive in developing
and maintain various aspects of this transportation which
is state owned company. Gambir station was built in 1930s
and only after 50 years got renovation that was in 1990
with addition of modern facade. The station is constructed
in 3 floors with green floor tiles. The rail stop and
passes through third floor, the second floor is equipped
with waiting lounge, cafeteria and fast food restaurants.
Ticket counters, public hall, fast food restaurants,
snack bars and some automatic teller machines are on
the first floor. Station Kereta Api Gambir, or Gambir
Railway station serves the traffic between cities in
Java such as Bogor, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Malang,
Cirebon, except Surabaya. While commuter train to and
out of Jakarta do not stop here. State owned transport
company the DAMRI ( Djawatan Angkutan Motor Republic
Indonesia ) has shuttle from Soekarno-Hatta airport
Cengkareng to Gambir station.
It is well known of yearly mass exodus of the people
from Jakarta before and after the holiday of Idul Fitri.
During this season station Gambir is too crowded. From
year to year the number of mass exodus always grows
bigger and bigger with the same pattern. Starting 2002,
the capacity of train can not accommodate the number
anymore, as the transport is not develop so far. The
department of Transportation of Indonesia like have
no power to handle this future of the transportation
means, which should be given priority list by the company and holding company. If not it will be
a distressing problem for both national and local due to the great consumption of oil by]
individual transport especially in Java with almost 60% of Indonesian population living here. They have the publication by web site, but is
very difficult to down load. It is probably not functioned
as valuable information to the public, but just an accessory
to the company. If you would try to down load the site.

which has better web site with complete name, class
and other detail of train from Jakarta outbound. .
