Jakarta offers great places for shopping,
from traditional products such as handicraft, furniture, clothing, food up o hi-tect
products are available at the market of Jakarta. Traditional markets up to one
stop shopping of modern market are available such as shopping malls, plazas, department
stores and mini markets are springing everywhere in the town. One of the most
accessible from central Jakarta, close to the hotels in Central Jakarta is Blok
M Plaza, near entertainment district. Plaza Indonesia located accross Hotel Indonesia

JAKARTA MUSEUM
Jakarta History Museum Located at Jalan Taman Fatahilah No.1, Jakarta, the historical site of the old Jakarta. The museum is also known as museum Fatahilah, preserving the historical facts of the development of Jakarta city. The guilding of the museum was built in 23 January 1707 as the city hall and was complteed in 10 July 1710, under the lead of Dutch Governor General John van Hoorn. The building look lke city hall in Amsterdam Royal Palace which was built a half century earlier than Jakarta city Hall. The building also as the office of Dutch East India Company or VOC, business and conservation and research for all kind of objects of cultural property related to the history of Jakarta. The collection of the museum hs great variety starting from the object of prehistory up to 20th century. One is the replica of Tugu Inscription from the great king of Purnavarman which palace site was supposed to have been around Tanjung Priok, area, known as the kingdom of Tarumanegara. The map of Sunda Kelapa portdrawn in 16th century and the replica of Padrao, the Portuguese monument. The periode of Jayakarta and the beginning of the establishment of the city bronze cannon and various maps and drawing of 17th century. An old Portuguese cannon laid down at the fron to of the museum with inscription in Latin reads Ex Me Ipsa Renata Sum meaning I am reborn from myself. People called the canon as Si Jagur, believed as an impressive form of fertility. Collection of furniture of Betawi stle from 17th century is the richest collection and belong to the most complete one in the world. The collection reflects the association of the community of Jakarta with various cultureal elements of Europe ( Dutch ), China, India, and Indonesia. The museum opens from 09.00 to 11.00 for Friday and Saturday until 09.00 - 15.00, Sunday and Monday closed.
Museum of Fine Art and Ceramic The museum is located at Jalan Post Kota No.2 Jakarta city. The building used for museum is an old architecture build in 21 January 1870 as Raad van Jstice or High Court of Justice. In 1976 presiden Soeharto inaugurated as the museum of find art and ceramic of Jakarta The collection of the museum consist of various art works, of Indonesia created between 19th to 20th century displayed according to it's periode. There are paintings from Indoneisan maestros such as Raden Saleh, Sudjojono, Afandi, Zaini, Dullah, and Bazuki Abdullah. The sculptures collection is from abstract and relativesme styles. As born by the name, the museum displays various type of ceramics from home and abroad. From Indonesia the style of ceramic from Kasongan Yogyakarta, Plered west Java, Malang east Java, Bandung, Palembang, and Kalimantan. Most of this cereamics are contemporary design. Foreign ceramics come from 16th century China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Europe. The collection of Mr. AdamMalik former Vice President of Soeharto also exhibited here including ceramics and porcelains. The museum opens daily except Monday from 09.00 to 14.00, Friday until 11.00 and Saturday until 15.00 |
