Old Jakarta city. The area around Sunda Kelapa port, the traditional harbour of Jakarta and the " Kota " today covers the old town of Glodok and China town is the heritage from the past of Jakarta. The area was the center of business and culture from 5th century toward the era of Indonesian independence. So the area is rich with historical facts of Jakarta, even it's history for the development of Indonesia. Sunda Kelapa port which is supposed to have been established since 5th century when the kingdom of Taruma Negara control the area until the flourishing kingdom of Sunda, the Hindu kingdom of West Java, known as the kingdom of Parahyangan which capital city is estimated around present Bandung town. Until 1600 when Moslem kingdom of Demak attacked Hindu kingdom of West Java, moved the capital city to Banten and current Jakarta Kota. During Moslem Sultanate of Jakarta Kota known as Jayakarta, a vassal of Banten Sultanate. The coming of Dutch traders to Indonesia had chased Jakarta and Banten as the first place to make commercial contact with local spice traders. Other European such as British, France, and Portuguese also visited Jakarta, so that historically Jakarta has been an international port since 1600. The competition of spice trade among European and other traders had made the trade mission changed into colonization system to forced the source beside the rulers of Indonesian kingdoms at the moment only satisfied as tax collectors without thinking of building internal strength of the society. As a result it was to easy for the European traders with their more developed arms techniques to conquer the local rulers and forced their plan. The worse thing was that the weakness of the local rulers had made the trade become monopolized by the foreign traders which made local people who grow and nurture the spice did not enjoy their product value. We can't blame all those ancestor's weakness, as they were still having the orientation of spiritual life instead of normal life of human beings which seems still continue until today at certain areas of Indonesia without minor changers for hundreds of years. Relating to the old town of Jakarta the government has issued a regulation in 1972 to preserve the heritage of the town as one of the important fact of Jakarta city which can be function as national reserve and can be sold as one of the tourism object. This regulation seems doesn't work or probably is not yet applied to the actual plan as the condition of Jakarta Old town seems little if not any changes toward a national conservation area
