Earth Quake in West Java
On Wednesday 2 September 2009 at 14.55 West Indonesian Time, West Java was shaken by an earth quake with the intensity of 7.3 richter scale. Following is the report translated from http://www.koran-jakarta.com. Posted by Warsono in Bahasa Indonesia.
Strong earth quake again shaken the country with this time with the intensity of 7.3 richter scale, with the epicenter 142 kms south west of the city of Tasikmalaya, West Java with the depth 30 kms, on Wednesday 2 September 2009 at 14.55 West Indonesian Time. Damages happened in 10 Kabupaten regions and municipalities of West Java. Chaos also happened in Jakarta City.
The quake also caused a low tsunami of around 1 meter on the beach of Pameungpeuk, southern of Garut town. The tremor was also felt in Bandung, Semarang, Cilacap, Yogyakarta and the capital city Jakarta. In Jakarta peoples were hasting out of the high buildings.

In Jakarta 1 dead and 19 injured which are being cured at some hospitals. The head of Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics, Sri Woro Harijono in Jakarta on Wednesday said that the bureau reminded on the possibility of tsunami following the quake, yet it is after an hour the reminder was withdrawn, as the following successive quakes were not indicating that tsunami could happened.

The information on victims deaths and injuries are still being collected. The head of Central Crisis Control of Heath Department, Mr. Rustam Pakaya in Jakarta said that until 22.00 West Indonesian Tinme the number of death have been 33 persons, and injured 305 persons, and lost 40 persons with the detail that biggest death is in Kabupaten Bandung counts 6 persons, Kabupaten Cianjur 11 persons, Kapubaten Garut 4 persons, Kapupaten Tasikmalaya 1 person, in Banjar 6 persons and 1 person at Kapubaten Sukabumi.

Koran Jakarta's coverage so far found that at least 902 houses were damaged at Kabupaten Tasik Malaya among which 560 were light damage until 22.00 West Indonesian Time, 5 persons dead, 21 persons injured scattered on various kecamatan areas under kabupaten Tasikmalaya such as Cisayong, Salawu, Sodong Hilir, Cigalontang, and Cineam said the spokesman of Kabupaten Tasikmalaya, Iwa Kartiwa.

Some people were cleaning their cleaving houses. One building felt was the Pesantren Ryadlul Ulum Waddwah at the village of Condong, Kecamatan Cibeureum, Tasikmalaya. According to one of the head of Pondok Pesantren Endang Rahmat, the students were preparing of Asar praying when the quake suddenly shaken the area, so the students hasting out causing teens of girls students unconscious.

Unit Field officer of Natural Disaster of West Java Muhamad Ridwan Sunarya in Bandung said that 23 persons were dead on various Kabupaten regions, light and hard damaged houses 3.586 units in 10 Kabupatens and municipalities of West Java.

Geologist of Bandung Institute of Technology said that the quake of Tasikmalaya is not related with the quake of Siberut Island of West Sumatra which happened on Wednesday 09.08 West Indonesian Time. While the expert of earth quake of Andalas University in Padang Mr. Badrul Mustapa said that the quake that has been shaken West Java has the potency of damaging building due to its shallow epicenter of 30 kms deep.
